Skirts!

(from Amy) Last time in Zambia, I bought a heap of fabric in the hopes of spontaneously evolving into a master seamstress.

With 31 days to go and lots of free time with the semester being done, I've set out to create my Zambian skirts.  Let's just say I think God is trying to steer me towards doing more "learning module" than "sewing" because I'm a sewing disaster.  But I did successfully make one skirt about 2 sizes too big... and I've got safety pins.

It won't be perfect, but I'm going to try and fit in with my skirt as much as a fair-skinned, blonde American girl can in the middle of Central Africa!

32 days to go

(from Kari) Katie and I are eating Pedro's and going through the Zambia workbook.  I was totally reminded that my #1 role is to learn.

Medical Team checking in...

I'm a team leader?  That should strike fear in the hearts of any that know me.  Or don't know me for that matter.

52 days before departure, give or take a day or two (I've been in a car for about 10hrs)....

Why are we going to Zambia?

Zambia is one of the poorest nations in the world.  Educational opportunities beyond high school are limited.  Good health services are beyond the reach of many who need them most.  This is compounded by the ravages of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.

Northrise University was founded with the goal of providing high quality education to those who would then make a difference in Zambia.  One of NU's core values is to live out a biblical world view -- which includes community action.

It is out of this that Ndola Vision 2008 was developed.  We are going to work in the community -- alongside NU students and staff.  The goal is to impact Ndola positively.  We've got teams working with children, hospitals, women, the farm, and pastors.  (ndolavision.com)
