The holes were about 18"X18"X18"
The soil itself was more akin to concrete than what we might consider dirt. We dug about one hole every 45 minutes or so, depending on how hard the ground was. I've NEVER encountered ground this solid.

The way we worked was one person used the pick (or hoe) to loosen the soil, and then the other person would shovel away the dirt. We went about an inch at a time.
Trina, no surprise to anyone, was a standout team member--the only woman on the team, and carrying a flaming skull child to boot! We were a great team, and had a load of fun working together. Can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow!

Lunchtime!

Hi Guys! It's your biggest fan checking in again. Great job digging through cement-like dirt. How's the heat over there, Joe? I need to ask you for an accurate description. :)
Way to go, Trina, being THE girl out there digging along with the guys! Stay cool and hydrated. The Sox lost to TB last night 5-4. We are 1 and a half games behind TB! Hope to get a W tonight! Love Ya!
Trin and Joe,
Yay for grueling physical labor. I haven't been digging any holes lately, but you know that this is one of Micah's specialties in conversation so I'm sure he dug holes the same day that you did.
Trin, you're the woman! I echo M. Fitzy's exhortation: stay cool and hydrated.
We're praying for you all!
Love, Rach
Melissa -- The weather is actually pretty good. It's windy and arid, so the temp really doesn't feel that hot. But it's nice and sunny every day! It's so fun sharing the trip with you guys.
